News roundup: Spinvox/ Vodafone, Soapbox Mobile/ Single Touch, Wupima/ Hook Mobile

October 2, 2007

Voice to Text provider SpinVox has signed an agreement with Vodafone Spain. The service allows callers to leave a voicemail which is then also delivered as an SMS to users (I use the service here in the UK… its great!). SpinVox has forecast 6 million subscribers globally by first quarter 2008.

Mobile advertising firm Soapbox Mobile has been bought by Single Touch. Soapbox provides a number of text based advertising solutions including applications such as SMS voting and SMS quizes.

Wupima, a firm that distributes Chinese mobile content to North America, has bought Hook Mobile. Hook Mobile, in its own words provides the “first cross-carrier MMS platform in the U.S. and enables content owners and advertisers to create viral marketing campaigns”.
