Interview: No hassles, no commitments with Fast Flirting

July 30, 2007

jumbuck-logo.gifWhat’s the most popular product of the largest provider of community messaging applications in the world? Well, it’s not stock quotes. No, Fast Flirting is one of the main reasons that Jumbuck Entertainment delivers over 13 billion wireless web page impressions a year.

We previously asked Olivia Hilton, CEO of Jumbuck about their Power Chat mobile application. This time we addressed some questions about Fast Flirting.

What is Fast Flirting anyway?

Hilton: Fast Flirting was established to emulate the very popular physical speed-dating concept, where you go to a bar and have a quick ten-minute conversation with random people to establish if there is a connection. Physical speed dating is seen not only as a fun, quick, social way to meet a potential partner but also as pure entertainment, simply a fun social activity. As a single woman in her 20s, I’ve been to speed-dating social events - not to meet my match but to simply have a laugh and expand my social circle. That’s the need we wanted Fast Flirting to fill.

What makes Fast Flirting different?

Hilton: Traditional online dating sites are also very popular, but they are focused more on finding a possible life partner: users are required to fill out up to three or four pages of registration information, and then wait until the system returns possible matches. This can take up to 24 hours. We saw a gap in the market for another channel that enabled people to — above all — fill an immediate and spontaneous need. And most importantly, to have fun!.. For people that are increasingly time-poor (which is where the mobile platform fits in) we designed a service that complements this platform and truly leverages the real-time capabilities of a phone.

What makes it works so well on mobile?

Hilton: Mobile is the ideal platform for this; it allows users to interact in real time, anytime, anywhere. Fast Flirting is more like a quick, flirty encounter at a bar. Users log into the service with a user name, age, gender and location, and then select someone for a quick 10 minute flirt, using those same criteria. Fast Flirting fills an need for immediate interaction and gratification.

Is it really healthy to spend hours chatting or flirting with people you’ll never meet?

Hilton: Well, our average session times are 30-40 minutes. People spend much more time than this destroying each other with video games! We find that our peak periods are usually early morning or late at night. This suggests that these services fill idle time, such as on the bus, when commercials are running on TV, or when people otherwise have a few minutes to kill. Funnily enough, Sunday evening is always a peak period.
