Fixed price mobile Instant Messaging

April 16, 2007

windowslivemessengerlogo.jpgFinish carrier TeliaSonera has announced the availability of Microsoft Windows Live Messenger for selected Nokia phones. The Instant Messaging (IM)platform costs approximately US$8 per month which includes data usage associated to the service (IM services rely on an Internet connected mobile). To use the service consumer download a widget and install on their phone.

The advantage of IM over SMS communications includes real time communications, and presence functionality. There are of course free IM widgets that users can install on their phones including Windows Live Messenger, the selling proposition Teliasonera has captured is the capped data cost. For frequent IM users who pay for data by the megabyte this will be of comfort.
